Disclosure drop deep house beats at the 02 Academy

Expectations were high for Disclosure’s set at the O2 Academy on Friday, one of the most hyped nights in Oxford this year.

atmospheric

Brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence were recently named as one of the ‘Hot Ten For 2013’ by BBC Radio 1xtra. Combined with the fact that the ‘Switch’ set series had been regularly selling out, the visit from the Croydon-based duo was set to be a highlight.

If you managed to get tickets then give yourself a smug pat on the back – if not, console yourself with the knowledge that most people didn’t either.

rapture

The atmosphere was electric. Dodging the wife-beater-clad sweat and testosterone in a packed 02 academy, Guy and Howard Lawrence treated the crowd to a tour de force of contemporary deep house, mixing in their own tunes throughout.

Although there was barely space to move in the main room, the crowd were lively and enjoyed the set from start to finish.

moody

Their vibrant house/garage sound kept the crowd dancing for a two hour set.

Disclosure wrapped up just after 3 with an encore of their most popular material.

They saw out the night with their remix of Jessie Ware’s ‘Running’, the track with which they broke onto the scene, followed the Hudson Mohawk remix of White Noise released earlier this month.

Disclosure’s superb performance on Friday shows just why this dynamic duo have been marked out as electronic music’s next big thing, and set the benchmark to beat for Switch nights to come.
