Stood Up In Oxford

Beneath a few nervous deliveries and the odd long pause, this showed Oxford comedy is to be encouraged

ʻStood Up in Oxfordʼ is a series of comedy nights featuring Oxford stand-ups. Beneath a few nervous deliveries and the odd long pause, the Tuesday night performance of showed that Oxford comedy is to be encouraged, and there are acts out
there with a lot of potential.

Whether it was Jamie Carragher subjecting a member of the audience to a hilarious account of what he does when home alone – a side-splittingly awkward exchange accompanied by a wide array of face contortions – or experienced Oxford comic Rory O Keeffe’s set which managed to be self-deprecating without being self-indulgent, there was definitely a range on offer.

We were treated to the very first performance of the interestingly-attired Louis Fletcher (think clashing patterns, bow tie), who let us in on the secret that people seem to think heʼs a serial killer with anxiety issues, and Tim Schneider, whose delivery was confident and content clever, provided the second, and not the last, ex-girlfriend story of the evening. It would have been nice for the Oxford comics to present material from perhaps a more original sphere of reference, however, overall the acts were solid.

The compere Ryan Sarsfield was making sure the audience felt at ease throughout the evening and could have afforded to not work so hard!

In summary, youʼll have an enjoyable evening at a very reasonable price.

Stood Up in Oxford is showing in the Burton Taylor Studio until Saturday.
Performances start at 7.30pm, tickets are £5.
