Man admits killing 18-year-old prospective Nottingham Uni student in car crash

Francesca Bugliarello had secured a place to study social care at the university

A man has admitted to killing a prospective University of Nottingham student in a serious car crash.

18-year-old Francesca Bugliarello died on 13th June 2020 after the car she was a passenger in collided with another parked car.

Matthew Ellson, 20, previously denied causing the death of Francesca, known as Frankie, but yesterday changed his plea and admitted causing death by careless driving.

Francesca, who had recently secured a place to study social care at University of Nottingham, died at the scene. Two other passengers were also injured in the crash.

In tribute, Frankie’s family said: “We will never be able to make any sense of what has happened.

“Frankie touched many hearts and we want people to remember her for the beautiful girl that she was both inside and out, not for this devastatingly tragic event that took her away from us. She will live forever in all of our hearts.”

Ellson is due to be sentenced next month at Chester Crown Court.
