‘I had to be taken away in an ambulance’: Notts students share their craziest Freshers’ stories

It’s not Freshers’ if you don’t meet Andy Hoe

| UPDATED

Oh Freshers’ Week; a time to mingle, make friends, settle-in to a new city, and of course most importantly, to test the limits of your alcohol intake. Occasional university work may be done, but that is a priority for the future.

In honour of completing the milestone that is Freshers’ Week and with real life having already kicked in, we thought it was a good time to look back on the infamous weeks and remind everyone that we have all endured the most socially awkward, peculiar, and in most cases drunkest week of their lives. It will forever be a standout week remembered for years to come.

From police chases to meeting the Nottingham legend that is Andy Hoe, this brutal week never disappoints. Here is a rundown of the best Freshers’ stories that might be told in years to come:

Bruised from head to toe

“I fell from the top of some stairs in a club, bruising my whole body.

“I decided to call it a night so began to leave. I raced ahead of the group unsupervised, who were finishing their drinks.

“The stairs were quite shallow, and it pretty much acted as a slide.

“I woke up with bruises everywhere”

Uber ride from hell

I was involved in “being in an Uber that spun out and the video went viral”.

Say goodbye to that five-start rating.

The one with Andy Hoe

I met Andy Hoe at Ocean

“I was lining up for Ocean, when me and my friends spotted Andy Hoe at the entrance. We had been stalking his Instagram earlier that day, so we were determined to say hi. Once we got let in, we ran up to him and got a drunken and blurry picture.

“It’s our house’s most prized possession.”

What a true legend.

One too many Jägerbombs

I threw up at the club and a girl slipped in it and fell over.

“I was having a having a great night, dancing my heart out at a club in Notts when I decided Jägerbombs from the bar were a must. As soon as I threw it back, I knew straight away that it was not settling well inside. I quickly rushed down the stairs towards the toilets on the ground floor, with my friend following behind me.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the toilets in time. I threw up in my hands and on the dance-floor, outside of the toilet door. I didn’t have time to stop and assess the situation, so I continued running to the toilets. Once I sorted myself out and began washing my hands, I saw a security woman storming down the aisle of the female loos looking for me. Luckily I did a good job at seeming sober.

“When I exited the toilets, my friend came rushing up to me and said that he got bored guarding my sick so stepped away from it. He then told me that a group of girls walked past him and one of the girls slipped in my sick and fell over on her backside.

“I do feel slightly responsible, but it is hard to not laugh.”

I’m sure we’ve all been there.

A night to remember

“First freshers Ocean, and I went home with the third year welcome team member”.

I guess it’s true what they say, Ocean breeds true love.

Being bored and drunk can only mean one thing

I set the fire alarm off at 4am

“My friends and I were drunk and bored, so we used deodorant and set the fire alarm off at 4am, waking up my whole accommodation. I don’t think anyone knows it was us”.

Drunken hospital visit

“I had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance and put on an IV drip because I got too drunk”.

Just a few too many.

The forgotten toast

“Some guy on my floor forgot about his toast and the smoke and smell of burnt toast went down the corridor making the fire alarm go off. The whole hall had to be evacuated”

“The smell lasted for ages”.

Probably won’t be the worst thing made by freshers.

Witnessing a police chase

“A car was being chased by the police as I was walking. A man in the car threw out 30 bags of drugs as he drove away with the police still following”.

Just an average Sunday afternoon in Notts.
