Attention Notts students, The Rose and Crown is getting refurbished just in time for summer

A brand new pergola has got your name all over it

The Rose and Crown pub will be having a new pergola which means that there will be more outside seating than ever before.

That’s right, you and your mates can sit back, double parked with your beverages of choice and watch the world go by, all whilst being mercifully protected from the elements. Although hopefully it’s going to be a hot – girl – summer.

Located in Lenton on Derby road, and just down from both QMC and University of Nottingham’s Jubilee campus, the Greene King chain pub is popular amongst students and locals for its offering of food and drink. It’s been my local this year and I can’t fault it really. Personally, I rate the Sunday night quiz.

The development plans were initially approved by Nottingham City Council on June 7th with the pergola to be placed at the front of the pub. The plans also included a mega 75-inch TV screen.

But according to a council report, the refurbishment plans had to be amended to relocate the pergola development to the rear of the building to alleviate concerns that it would detract from “the character of the host building which is considered to be of some historic interest”.

Additionally, a letter of representation received by the council from the Nottingham Civic Society said: “The pergola at the front would spoil the appearance of the front elevation and give rise to unwarranted noise disturbance in the locality through the siting of an outdoor tv. The proposal should not be supported.”

Once the plans were changed to move the pergola to the rear of the building and to scrap the proposal for the new, external all-weather TV screen, no further letters were received by Nottingham City Council.

For some, the thought of not being able to watch the latest game outside on a brand spanking new television may be a disappointment, but it means that you can spend some quality screen-free time with your pals, perched underneath the new pergola, putting the world to rights.

The refurbishment will commence soon, so let’s let the good times roll. What are you waiting for?
