University of Nottingham to ban applications from students from Surrey

The uni said it has become ‘overrun’ with Southerners

A leaked email has revealed that the University of Nottingham plans to implement a ban on all incoming student applications from those who live in Surrey.

UoN will be the first UK university to implement a ban on student applications due to their location.

The reason for this ban, the email revealed, is because UoN has become “overrun” with Southerners, particularly those from Surrey.

The leaked email was obtained by The Tab Nottingham from an anonymous university staff member.

According to the anonymous uni insider, “The university has been discussing a ban such as this for years”. They added, “They’re calling it a ‘limitation’ but it essentially is a ban. Some senior staff members wanted to implement the ban years ago, but were originally met with a lot of hostility.

“Now, since the university has become pretty much overrun with students from Surrey, the university board has finally allowed the ban to be put in place. They hope this will increase the diversity of the student body at the university.”

Hubert Fromes, a second year Economics student at UoN, who is from Surrey, told The Tab Notts: “For me, as someone from Surrey, it’s gutting. The students I know from Surrey at UoN are some of the most hardworking and humble I know – great assets to any university.

“Plus, they tend to have great connections, usually parents. Without having come to Nottingham, I wouldn’t have met a lot of the people who went to other private schools near me, and I also wouldn’t have got my summer internship in the city. They should really reconsider if they want to continue having such successful alumni.”

According to the email, the ban is already in place and will impact those applying to study at University of Nottingham for academic year 23/24.

You should probably check the date, you April fools!
