Police presence and bins taped off on Uni of Nottingham campus

Students have reported seeing police vans by Portland and Hallward Library

| UPDATED

A police presence was seen on campus this morning.

Students also reported seeing bins taped up in the Students’ Union.

One student reported seeing two police cars behind the SU, and another student reported seeing another two police vans by the library.

A Nottingham student told The Tab Notts that they’d asked the police on campus what was happening and were reportedly told the police were present on campus due to any potential security threats with Chief Rabbi Mirvis’ attendance. The Tab Notts has contacted Nottinghamshire Police to confirm this and is yet to receive a response.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis was set give a short talk to Notts Jewish students and join them for lunch, according to a Facebook post by the University’s Jewish Chaplains.

It seems this event comes during a “whistle stop” tour of university campuses which the Chief Rabbi has been taking. Yesterday, the Chief Rabbi Mirvis was at the University of Leeds, where issues from climate change to extreme poverty were apparently discussed.

The Tab Nottingham has contacted Nottinghamshire Police for statement.
