Uni of Nottingham ‘working on plans’ to take on students from Ukraine

The university also hopes to take on academic staff

University of Nottingham has said it is “working on plans” to allow student refugees from Ukraine to continue their studies at the university.

In a statement made to their website, UoN announced that it is working on plans to enable students and postgraduates to continue their studies in Nottingham. UoN also hopes to offer the opportunity for academic staff to continue their research at the university.

It hopes to implement this either through the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA) or possibly through their own scheme. CARA is a non-government organisation that partners with universities world-wide to help students and academics alike who are facing persecution or conflict in their countries to safely continue their studies and research.

This comes after the university recently announced that it was planning to repurpose unused university buildings into housing for Ukrainian refugees.

A spokesperson for the university said: “The university has now registered as a provider organisation with Homes for Ukraine, and we are currently assessing suitable accommodation whilst we await further detail from government. We are also working on plans to enable students and postgraduate researchers from Ukraine to study with us in the UK, as well as for affected academic staff to continue their research. This may be delivered either via the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA) or possibly our own scheme. We will confirm details just as soon as we can.”
