What your Notts supermarket choice says about you

Only the best students shop at Beeston’s Big Tesco

Going to the supermarket to do your weekly shop, to get booze, or to update your snack supply is part of every student’s routine but which store you choose to use actually says a lot about you as a person.

Whether it be team Lidl or Waitrose, your supermarket destination of choice demonstrates how good you are at cooking, what kinds of clothes you wear, and can even reflect whether or not your are a Southerner.

Beeston Big Tesco

If you are shopping in Beeston’s big Tesco then you probably live in Beeston or you have a Clubcard and enjoy the buzz of watching your total go down when you scan it.

Beeston is where your heart is. Even if you have moved on to Lenton, you likely still make the drive back for late-night trips to big Tesco.

Students who shop here are actually elite, especially the ones that know how much fun the upper floor is. You live a fun and chaotic lifestyle and are a social butterfly. You get excited by the simple things in life and don’t let anyone tell you that that is a bad thing; you always find a way to have fun in any mundane situation.

Castle Marina Sainsbury’s

The students that live near this Sainsbury’s are boujee. They either live in The Park or in the spenny student accommodation that surrounds the estate. When walking around big Sainsbury’s, you’ll find an endless supply of girls wearing oversized North Face puffers and Urban Outfitters’ iets frans tracksuit bottoms.

You either shop here because it’s one of the only big supermarkets nearby or because the little Sainsbury’s in Lenton just does not have what you need so, you make the trip to Castle Boulevard to get your shopping. Sainsbury’s food is a safe bet for any student that does not want to take a step out of their comfort zone.

Overall, the clientele is reasonably posh and respectful as they have been brought up to understand the meaning of personal space.

Lenton Sainsbury’s Local

This little store provides for the kitchen simpletons of Nottingham. If you choose to do your weekly shop here then, you are not a particularly avid chef in the kitchen so, the basic food that is supplied in this little store suits you perfectly. You live a mainstream Notts life.

Your goal in life is to go with the flow and to make others around you happy. The minimum is okay for you and that is all you need.

Castle Marina Lidl

If you happen to miss the fact that there is a massive gym next to this store, once you are inside, it is easy to realise that there is one close. Wearing workout clothes is practically part of the uniform in this Lidl. Most shoppers go to the gym and then straight into the store to buy themselves something from the bakery, as they are already in the store, the gym lads then proceed to buy as much cheap protein and spinach as they can fit in their wheely basket.

Students who shop here are looking for an affordable weekly outgoing so that they can afford to splash the cash on going to Crisis. You can spot them anywhere in Lenton on a Wednesday night, showing up to pres with their bottle of Rachmaninoff.

Castle Marina Lidl shoppers are hectic and hyperactive but, they are always down for a good time. They enjoy the ever-changing nature of the middle aisle and like to live life in the same way: by constantly doing new and random activities.

City Centre M&S

Nobody shops here. You are lying if you say that this is where you do your shops. You are undeniably upper class if you even consider shopping here but, realistically, the only time that you have done a full M&S shop has been when Mummy and/or Daddy came up to visit you and offered to do a shop for you.

If you are a regular visitor to this store, it is simply because you want to be an “it girl” and like looking mysterious. Any student in this shop looks out of place. Girls will ensure that they are wearing their best outfits to try to fit in, but will still stick out.

Radford Aldi

Tell me you lived in St Peter’s Court without telling me you lived in St Peter’s Court. You are all about budgeting. To you, food is food. It does not matter which supermarket you buy it from. Aldi is cheap and so are you.

The majority of shoppers that come here are from the outskirts of Radford and you can tell. Most students look like they have just rolled out of bed and passed up on the shower.

Realistically, you only shop here because you don’t have a local Lidl. You are all about saving every penny and you have heard that Aldi is the best Lidl-alternative so this is where you spend your student loan.

City Centre Little Waitrose

We get it, you’re fancy. Or, at least, you want us to believe you are.

If you shop here, you probably are always wearing at least one designer item which probably costs more than most students’ monthly rent.

Broadgate Co-op

You have probably lived in Broadgate at some point in your life and you may even be living there now. You either lived their first year and loved the ease of being right next to campus or, you have moved into one of their studios where you will become a complete hermit, only leaving your one room for lectures or a trip to Co-op.

Students who shop here follow a rigid routine. You eat pasta most days and don’t even bother walking into Beeston to try a different store because it’s too far.

You are in Nottingham for your education and nothing more. The second you have got your degree, you will move back to where you came from and won’t ever look back.

Castle Boulevard Tesco Express

You are a classic Notts student through and through.

You come here to buy 3 for £5 booze, instant noodles, snacks, ice cream when it’s on sale, and meal deals.
