Nottingham Christmas market closes for the rest of the year

It was just too good to be true

After just one day of trading, Nottingham’s Christmas market has been forced to close its doors due to large crowds flocking to the city centre.

It was announced after just 8 hours of the market being open on Saturday that it was temporarily shutting its doors due to the ‘unprecedented high footfall.’

The demand for town has been far higher than expected, due to shoppers beginning their hunt for Christmas gifts after the second nationwide lockdown.

All over the country, shopping hotspots and city centres have seen a far higher number of individuals pass through than expected.

Other Christmas markets such as Birmingham and Manchester made the decision to cancel the market ahead of opening in anticipation of a large volume of visitors.

The Nottingham Christmas market began to be dismantled this afternoon despite being set to remain in Old Market Square right up until Christmas Eve.
