Hundreds queue on Ilkeston Road to see new Banksy

Nottingham City Council are providing 24-hour surveillance

Hundreds of people are gathering down Ilkeston Road in Lenton, after Banksy confirmed that the new mural on the side of Rothesay Avenue is that of his own.

The world-renowned artist took to Instagram yesterday to claim the piece, which shows a girl using a bike tyre as a hula hoop.

Residents of Nottingham have since flooded to the scene, to check out Lenton’s new exciting addition.

Nottingham City Council are providing 24-hour surveillance to ensure that the artwork does not get ‘defaced’, following a vandalism incident just a few days ago. Fortunately, the piece had already been covered with a glass-protection to ensure no damage is permanently done.

This comes only days after it was announced that Nottingham is entering the second tier of the new lockdown system, as cases have been on the rise and currently hold the highest infection rate in the country.
