UoN to spend £500,000 a year on cafe in new sports centre

Who needs more language staff when you can have a fancy-ass cafe?

The cafe in the new David Ross Sports Village with a “stylish eating environment” is going to cost £500,000 to run.

A national catering firm, Sodexo, has been given a £5 million contract from the University of Nottingham to run its new sports cafe.

The catering company already currently operates five outlets at the university’s Sutton Bonington campus, serving healthy and nutritious food.

It’s part of a £580 million capital investment programme the university is undertaken, which coincided making plans for 12 academic staff redundancies in the Faculty of Arts, despite the university make a surplus of 20 million pounds a year.

Sodexo universities account director Jonathan Keitch said on the contract: “In The Clubhouse (the name of the new cafe)  we’ve put together a really high quality, stylish eating environment and a fantastic food offer to meet the needs of the students, athletes and general public who will use the sports village.”
