Breaking: Man dies following fatal blaze on Derby Grove

A 56-year-old is being held for murder


A murder inquiry has been launched following the Derby Grove fire.

A man in his forties was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries yesterday, but has since died.

A 56-year-old man was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but he is now being held for murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

As smoke filled the street, students in neighbouring properties were evacuated while fire crews attempted to tackle the blaze.

Witnesses reported seeing the victim being carried out by paramedics and tended to on the scene.

But at 1:10pm today police announced the man had died from his injuries.

The house is now the subject of a murder inquiry.
