It left someone with life threatening injuries


A 56-year-old man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder following a house fire in Lenton.

Yesterday, a fire ravaged a house on Derby Grove, shutting the street and leaving one man fighting for his life in QMC.

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Fire fighters tackling the fire early today

The road was closed at the junctions with Ilkeston Road and Derby Road and neighbouring properties were evacuated while fire crews worked at the scene.

One person was taken to QMC with life threatening injuries.

Three fire engines attended the scene until around 3pm.

Fire chiefs say the house will be sealed off and guarded by police officers overnight, and police, fire and scenes of crime officers are due to continue the investigation on Monday.

A police statement said: “Police are investigating the circumstances around a fire in Lenton.

“One person was  taken to Queen’s Medical Hospital with life threatening injuries.

“A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody pending further investigation.”
