Feminists blast 50 Shades ‘abuse’ joke in SU email gaffe

50 shades of not OK

| UPDATED

Bungling SU staff have been criticised for using “abuse” seen in 50 Shades of Grey to promote their own news and updates.

Members of University of Nottingham’s Feminist society were outraged by an email sent to students that joked about the controversial new film 50 Shades of Grey.

The email, sent on Thursday, had the subject “50 Shades of Great News”. It contained a lot of dull information about student elections, rather than the latest on whips and nipple clamps.

The feminists have accused the SU of seeing abuse as a trendy subject after their latest gag.

50 Shades of Grey has been seen to romanticise rape against women, due to the predatory tactics used by the dominant Christian Grey to groom and abuse a vulnerable young woman.

The newly released film is getting the thumbs down from feminists, religious groups and even the BDSM community, who feel they are not accurately represented. The book has topped the list of best-sellers around the world, with the series selling over 100 million copies.

It unclear whether the SU shop plans to stock up on rope, cable ties and duct tape to cope with the rise in students trying to explore their sexual fantasies.

This is not the first time the SU has got knotted in trouble with the feminists, after they were slammed for a poor reaction to the Cavendish necrophilia chant.
