Review: Homemade

The Tab has found the perfect Valentine’s location.

Homemade is a great little cafe in Hockley (head up the street from Zara and it’s on the right).

Serving tasty locally sourced food: everything from burgers, to a posh brekkie and the most delicious cakes, you won’t disappoint your Valentine here.

Perfect place to dry off from Nottingham’s incessant rain

Inside it is quirky and fun. With handwritten signs, cutlery in old golden syrup tins and candles melted into wine bottles, everything about Homemade is cute.

What’s more, it’s candle-lit and there isn’t the pressure of a commercially driven sell-out chain restaurant demanding your money for a contrived romantic atmosphere.

The Tab went for a non-committal, easy first date option of cake and hot chocolate. The slice of chocolate cake was a very generous wedge with seriously calorific buttercream. The brownie was to die for. And look at the size of that deluxe white hot chocolate!

The Tab loves cake.

There are plenty of savoury options too. With an extensive specials board, there’s something for even the fussiest of eaters. The Tab recommends the Foxy’s Mega Fish Finger Sandwich – an excellent take on the student classic.

Homemade is great for a first date or for a loved up couple. Plus they offer 10% NUS discount for anything over a fiver, so you’ll be saving some pennies too.

The Tab knows how to do romance.

Homemade will definitely be busy on Valentine’s Day so be prepared with some small talk if you have to queue for a table. It will be worth it.

Open Friday from 9am until 5.30pm.
