Ten Tunes to… Get You in the Mood for Christmas

Quit being a scrooge. Listen to these ten tunes to get you into that festive spirit.

In the words of Slade, IT’S CHRISTMAAAAAAAS!!

Well… not quite, but either way The Tab is feeling festive.  Advent calendars have been opened, Mooch is covered in tinsel and the giant snowman at the Christmas Market is up and running!

However, some of you may not be on board with our pre-Christmas enthusiasm.  A friend recently graphically explained, “It’s as if Christmas is being shoved down your throat”. While in reference to the Christmas Market, another tried to snub, “Birmingham’s is better”.  Blasphemy.

We at The Tab are putting our foot down.  Whether you’re as cranky as the Grinch or as overenthusiastic as Will Ferrell in ‘Elf’, we’ve got Ten Tunes to get you in the mood for the build up to Christmas.

Don’t expect to only see your long assumed favourites and the inevitably shite X Factor single will not be getting a look-in. We may be on the Naughty List for a couple of these choices…

Holidays are coming. The sign that the festive season is truly upon us. If you haven’t seen the Christmas Coca Cola advert yet you clearly haven’t been watching enough X Factor.

Cold December Night – Michael Bublé.  I challenge you not to smile while listening to this.  Hop into a Buble bath and enjoy.

Christmas Lights – Coldplay.  A typically mellow Coldplay song.  Technically depressing lyrics paired with an ironically upbeat melody.  One for those who are feeling ambivalent about their Christmas cheer.  Be sure to follow it up with….

Shakin’ Stevens – Merry Christmas Everyone.  First line, ‘snow is falling’.  Where the HELL is the snow? If it’s going to be this cold, we deserve a snowball fight goddamnit!

Mike Oldfield – In Dulci Jubilo.  Beat the cold and move around to this upbeat number to warm up!

Chris Rea – Driving Home For Christmas. Perfect for your commute home.

Frank Sinatra – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Where would we be without this?

Bo Selecta – Proper Crimbo. When I say Crimbo, you say selecta! Proper Crimbo.

Snoop Dogg – Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto.  Snoop does Christmas – sorry Santa.  It starts innocently enough, but the wholesome image is fairly swiftly crushed.

The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl – Fairtyale Of New York. Sing along everyone!

We hope this playlist has got you suitably in the mood for the festive season! Merry Christmas from all at The Tab!
