What your NUA degree says about you

…or not?

Arts universities have such a reputation for harbouring the strangest of students and in a way, this is correct.

We are much more confident to be our selves than those who merely take a degree just because it's expected of them. The area that really differers us from those academic students is that we are doing something we love and don't care about the stigma behind it, we plan on getting jobs in our field of study whether it's easy or not.

Now, let's move onto the subjects.

Animation

You are a strange bunch, though a lot more intelligent than those on the illustration course as you not only draw your images but animate them also (shocker.)

You do try and prove to everyone your degree is worth it, but at the end of the day, if you're not the best then it's more likely that we're going to see you employed working the line at your local Starbucks.

Fashion

Now this has a eclectic mix of people on the course, though a lot of the students look as though they watch Drag Race for inspiration for their next piece. As not to down talk fashion students, but everyone knows how to dress themselves in the morning, so why do most of you look as though you're attempting to prove this otherwise? Pyjamas are meant for home, not as a new quirky pair of trousers.

Fine Art

What defines fine art? If you study this course I'm sure a few of your opinions would differ as some of you spend hours on a painting while others just throw paint on a canvas. What does it all mean? You can easily spot the fine art students out of the rest of the university as they usually look homeless but act as though they have the world in their back pockets.

I wouldn't suggest getting these students started in an argument over the usefulness of their degree, because you won't be able to escape it even hours later. They can hold a grudge for a long time.

Film and Moving Picture

Whereas we have our drama queens, you few behind the camera are the total opposite, or at least you try, and it truly deserves a round of applause. You probably spend the most amount of time at university or even working on your course from home, and yet you never get bored. It's amazing you can spend hours editing films and videos, and yet watching even more when you get home, whether it be a pretentious film you found delving into the depths of Netflix or catching up on the final of drag race. Bravo.

Games Art & Design

Image may contain: Sketch, Drawing, Art

Why is it that you are always found on a night out but never during the day? The few who will keep to themselves but once you get a couple jagerbombs down their throat they're suddenly the most talkative people in the club. It's a shame your degree isn't just playing video games all day long, instead you're designing the background of the games, seems almost disappointing.

Graphics

Image may contain: Poster, Paper, Flyer, Brochure, Text, Sticker, Label

Who isn't on graphics? You lot seem to multiply like rabbit every time another year goes by, soon enough they're going to have to extend the graphics rooms to the illustration studios as hardly any of those even use the studios.

You're always sure to find someone from graphics on a night out as they never seem to want to consume any drink unless it is alcoholic. (Note: keep an eye in a lecture, you'll definitely see a fair few students with a can or bottle of something to get them ready for their bender later that evening.) With such a huge amount of students on the course, it's unsurprising that you don't know 70 per cent of the people on your course. Calm down your wit and stop making the rest of us feel stupider than we already are.

Illustration

Do any of you even make it into university? Anytime you pass the studios it just seems to get emptier and emptier! You're taking a degree in drawing, what really is so hard about that? Quite literally the most sarcastic bunch of people you'll ever meet. If you don't have a larger than life personality, there really isn't any point in taking this degree as you're going to be eaten up and spat out faster than the graphics students multiplying.

Photography

Image may contain: Person, People, Human, Poster, Collage

Instagram makes everyone a 'photographer' nowadays, so what makes you lot that much better? Which brings around a better question, do any of you actually know what you're doing, or do you just pose people and hope for the best? Props to you though for owning probably the most expensive equipment needed to do your degree, the competition for who spent the most for their degree definitely goes to you guys. Let's hope you don't end up flipping burgers at McDonald's after your three years are up.

Textiles

How are you lot always so happy? You must be taking something to stay that happy all the time, and to create the patterns and designs you come out with! With just how much you all seem to love organic fabrics and 'green' based products, it's surprising that you're not all vegans already.

You guys do everything though, you draw, sew, cut, print, and more! How do you even have the time to be able to do all of that and yet get your free time?
