Soul Train is blessing Norwich with its presence again this Friday

All aboard the Soul Train: Why it’s Norwich’s best night out

Expect a blend of everyone's favourite Disco, Funk, Soul and Motown tunes at OPEN Norwich this Friday 26th.

Known now for being a quality night fit with all the best classics from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, ‘Soul Train’ was originally an American TV programme which ran over 1,000 episodes from its heyday in the 70s, providing a platform for black artists and black culture.

Regardless of its cultural significance chronicling American pop culture in its full thirty-five years on air, the bottom line is Soul Train is a guaranteed good time.

Whether you’re sober, drunk or otherwise, it’s impossible not to enjoy a boogie to some of the most classic and uplifting tunes created. Plus, you get to experience the joy that is the TV show with clips projected above the stage.

Soul Train attracts a variety of people, so alongside the expected load of twenty-somethings sporting glitter and funky shirts, you’re likely to see a number of middle-aged people attending. Asides from it being a tad embarrassing seeing someone who resembles your aunty when you’re off your tits, it’s refreshing to be around a more diverse array of age ranges and people than your average Friday at Propoganda.

It’s not entirely the expected glitter and crop top go-to look, some people actually dress up in their 70s attire for Soul Train. You will probably glimpse genuine disco pants, whilst the organisers sometimes provide makeup artists to make your 60s through 80s makeup dreams come true.

Funky shirts and gliter are, or course, still allowed

The venue, OPEN, somehow manages to encapsulate both community-centre/ after-school club vibes with that of a genuinely cool venue. The beautiful high marbel ceilings gives it an edge that I inexplicably always come to admire at some point in the night.

Plus, if you've had enough of James Brown and CHIC (hard to fathom, I know), you can pop into the smaller 'club room' where they play heavier music.

Advance tickets are at just £7, so get your disco-pants and glitter ready.
