UEA has built a 10ft statue of Cloud Dog in the Students’ Union

No. Seriously.

Over the last few years, UEA has boasted a legendary campus mascot who could regularly be seen all over campus. The one, the only: Cloud Dog.

She is a Norwich icon, and gained so much fame that she was voted BNOC of the year in 2015, and has her own Facebook page with over 1,000 likes. Now she has been given her own statue.

So soft

However, this story isn’t all rainbows and smiles, as tragically, Cloud Dog passed away last October

She had sadly been suffering from arthritis for a while, and was mourned by everyone on UEA campus

But this March, the SU needed a way to get students to vote in the upcoming Union elections, so provided prize incentives

After the first few days of voting, the SU was giving away free food, free entry to clubs, and they even convinced the Vice-Chancellor to Dab.

Perhaps the most important incentive for us all was a promise to have a statue of our beloved dog put up in the SU if over 2,000 votes were cast.

This, for obvious reasons, got UEA students voting like mad

With 3,669 voters, it was a record turnout.

And the SU actually kept their word

And here it is, in all its glory, erected in UEA’s Students’ Union for all to see

I don’t know if I would call this a ‘statue’, but sure.

Most people are bloody loving it

Obviously, some people weren’t too happy with the SU’s art skills

Others compared it to that weird chicken that went viral lately

Oh UEA is wonderful.
