We asked people why they attended the Trump protest in Norwich
Hundreds of people showed up outside city hall last night
There have been anti- Trump protests up and down the country the past few days, with hundreds upon thousands turning out to stand up against the Muslim ban, Trump’s potential visit to the UK, and Theresa May’s apparent appeasement of his irrational plans. Last night was Norwich’s turn to voice their disgust.
The protest in Norwich was expecting a huge crowd, with over 2,000 people having clicked interested or attending on the Facebook event. Hundreds flooded the area in front of the City Hall, banners in hand and chants at the ready.
But whether it was the hand-holding, the threats to national relations, or what lurks in the future, we went out to ask protestors “What made you come out tonight?”
Josh, 17
If it’s not obvious enough already, a man like Trump shouldn’t be in power.
Jan, 70
Because if people who believe, as I do, don’t stand together in unity then there’s no hope.
Katie, 23
I want my government to stand up for the values of myself and my country instead of appeasing others.
Hajira, 50
To support the world. It was my son’s idea.
Yvette and Meg, 21
To show unity in the city, to show that we are recognising the issues in the world and standing up for the people that are suffering.
Amanda and Lela, 20
To show that what is happening is simply not okay.
Will, 18, Jacob, Olly & Ben, 19
We don’t support xenophobia and homophobia, which Trump clearly does. Basically, he’s a prick.
Josh, 19, Sophie, 23
To protest the sheer injustice.
Nic, 36, who spoke on behalf of Norwich Pride
To protest because I am concerned about the impact of Donald Trump’s policies on oppressed people.
Almost certainly similar marches will continue throughout the coming months, so don’t be silent and compliant, stand up for blatant injustice and be on the right side of history.
