Jessica HowardSam Smith has dropped out of Big Weekend after damaging his vocal cords.
The singer made the announcement on Instagram, saying: “Bad news. I have my operation booked for next week, so getting really nervous.
“But by doing this in eight weeks time I’m going to be able to sing like never before so it’s worth it.”
In a statement, Radio 1 said: “We are really sorry for all the fans who were looking forward to seeing Sam perform live. Everyone at Radio 1 wishes him a speedy recovery.”
It’s unclear who (if anyone) will replace him.
