Armed officers and police helicopters have been dispatched after reports of a man dressed in camouflage carrying a gun.

The young white man was seen dressed in camouflage this morning in Whitefriars.

Witness Eliza O’Hara, who works on St. George’s Street in the city, said: “A policeman spoke to my colleague and asked if she had seen anyone with a gun.”

A police spokesman said: “Police searches continue following reports of a man seen with a firearm in Norwich.

“Officers were called to the Whitefriars area of the city shortly after 8.30am following a number of reports of a young man believed to be carrying a firearm. The man was white and reported to be wearing full camouflage clothing.

“A number of police resources including local patrol officers, armed response units and the police helicopter were deployed to carry out area searches and conduct pro-active enquires. No arrests have been made.

“Armed police units have been stood down but remain in the area as enquiries continue.”
