Driver admits killing third year Rebecca McManus
She was due to graduate just a month after the crash
A motorist has admitted killing UEA student Rebecca McManus after his car ploughed into her while she waited at a bus stop.
21-year-old Rebecca was hit by Sukvinder Mannan’s out-of-control sports car as she headed out for a friend’s hen night on May 31 of last year.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her friend Harriet Barnsley was also seriously injured but survived the incident.
32-year-old Mannan admitted to causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday.
He also pleaded guilty to failing to provide a blood sample following the crash.
The court heard that Mannan has previously been convicted of driving without a licence and taking a car without consent.
He was bailed and told that he faces a “substantial prison sentence”.
Rebecca was due to graduate with a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing just a month after the crash and had already received a first class mark for her poetry dissertation. She had also had some of her writing published.
Staff at UEA described her death as an “irreplaceable loss”.
