Man charged after McDonald’s armed robbery

He was arrested an hour after making off with the cash

Shaken McDonald’s workers were forced to hand over almost two grand in cash to a man carrying a gun early yesterday morning.

Matthew Broomfield entered the Norwich city centre restaurant around 5am with what is believed to be a handgun before fleeing with £1700.

The police were called quickly, and within the hour had made an arrest in Covent road.

Armed man entered and demanded cash from tills.

Thankfully no one was injured during the incident and the restaurant has since re-opened.

This morning the 42-year-old appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court charged with one count of robbery and one count of possession on an imitation firearm.

Broomfield was remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court on February 10.

No comments have been made by staff since the event.
