Nap, interrupted: Burglar bolts after waking sleeping fourth year

It’s just one of a series of break-ins

A startled fourth year had his snooze rudely interrupted when a thief walked right into his bedroom.

Sleepy Adam Bramhall was snoozing when the intruder broke in, but thought it was one of his housemates. He said: “He thought the place was empty and came into my room while I was having a nap.

“I thought it was my housemate so I asked him what was up and he bolted”.

Now Norwich police are urging students to increase home security after a string of connected break-ins in student areas.

Unthank Road was one of the targeted streets.

Six properties were broken into between Sunday 4th and Wednesday 7th of January, some being student accommodation.

In each case access to the property was gained through an insecure front or rear door. The incidents took place across Leicester Street, Unthank Road, Gloucester Street and Portersfied Road.

The incidents mostly occurred during the afternoon and evening between the hours of 3pm and 9pm. Only one property was targeted during the morning. Police say that the events are connected.

Adam said: “CSI dusted for prints but said he wore gloves and was looking for jewellery or phones and wallets.”

A number of student houses have been targeted.

In two of the incidents intruders were disturbed by occupants and were unable to take anything from the properties. From the remaining four houses they took two iPhones, approximately £45 in cash and a handbag containing a purse, cash and bank cards.

Robert Smith also noted someone acting suspiciously around his property on Cambridge Street: “One guy kept stopping in front of each house for 30 seconds, would look, then would move onto the next one.

“He did it for outside about eight houses”.

Norfolk Police so far have no information or leads as to who performed these break-ins, and are currently still making inquiries.
