UEA grad and Ebola survivor returns to Sierra Leone

He only just recovered

A UEA grad nurse who contracted and survived Ebola has returned to Sierra Leone to help fight the virus.

Brave Will Pooley made the decision to return to Sierra Leone two months after recovering, despite warnings from doctors that he may not be immune to the virus.

He said: “I chose to go before and it was the right thing to do then and it’s still the right thing to do now.”

Pooley caught the virus in August while in a government hospital in Kenema, where the initial outbreak of Ebola in Sierra Leona took place. He was airlifted back to the UK on 25 August where he was treated in north London by several experts.

Despite what he has gone through, Will said: “This is a wonderful job and it’s got everything I got into nursing for.”
