Rat attack on Prince of Wales Road

The most ‘Norwich’ story you’ll read this week

Six Norwich locals have been handed suspended sentences after a fight broke out over a dead rat.

And as if that wasn’t enough of a punishment, they’ve been banned from Prince of Wales for a year.

Armed with a metal pole, 23-year-old Barrie Franklin chased attackers after they threw a dead rat at him.

He was joined by his friends Aiden Dowe and Kane Barker who were spotted carrying a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters.

A “curse” on the law-abiding citizens of Norwich

Unfortunately for us the fight-inciting rat toss, which took place at 5:30 am, was not caught on camera.

Franklin’s defence Philip Farr said “Having a dead rat thrown at you is very unusual provocation, but relatively unpleasant”.

He went on to say that the fight was unsurprisingly alcohol induced and was a “stupid and rash decision”

During sentencing, Judge Stephen Holt said student favourite Prince of Wales was a “curse” on the residents of Norwich.
