All aboard: why you should have a boat party on the broads!

Culture Editor Henika Patel shows you how you can have your own Norfolk-style boat party!

Library, Lectures, LCR – does that routine sound a little too familiar? Trust me – we’ve ALL been there. We’re here to remind you that studying in Norfolk has its perks.

Norfolk really is the perfect duo, with the city buzz on one hand and the calm of the countryside on the other. But did you know you can actually hire out your very own boat to steer on the Norfolk broads?

Near, far…

We understand that country walks and sunsets might not be what you had in mind for university life but what if it there’s a boat involved?

That’s right – just outside of Norwich you’ve got the opportunity to head out and sail around on the Norfolk broads on your own boat. Don’t worry, it’s not as technical as it may seem – you don’t need a licence or previous sailing experience to hop aboard. It really is simple: just accelerate and steer away!

Easy peasy

Whether you’re jumping around on deck or momentarily pretending to be the princess of Monaco, it’s safe to say those steadily increasing overdrafts and student loans will seem a million miles away. One of the best things about this soothing slice of Norfolk treasure is that it’s only actually a super short and cheap train ride away from Norwich to “Hovetam & Wroxham” station. (No excuses now!)

Mr Whippy drive-thru – amazing!

Once you’re there, it’s a 5-10 minute walk from the station to the broads – just follow the ducks, crowds and signs and you’ll be sure to find it! You can rent the boats out by the hour or day depending on how long you want to stay out and lap up the sun.

It’s pretty amazing that prices start from only £16! Divided between you and a few friends it works out as very affordable for the student pocket. Let’s be honest, that’s always a determining factor!

Take in the gorgeous scenery and get away from the stress of exams

We hope this is a find that will keep you going through this stressful term – with the days getting longer and exams edging closer it’s certainly a nice escape.
