Norwich’s best beer gardens

The sun is shining – it’s time to get those knees out and head to the pub! Here are our favourites from across Norwich.

Norwich is home to some great beer gardens that you may have never heard of. Whether you want to escape the horrendous world of revision or just make the most of the weather, they’re all worth a visit. Having tracked down these hidden gems, here are the best of the best:

The Playhouse

This bar is perfect for students what with its cool décor. Right on the banks of the river Wensum, it’s a great spot for chilled summer evenings. They serve everything from Norwich’s local ales to wines, spirits and fancy cocktails. And if that doesn’t convince you, it has won an award for its garden where live music and performances are put on regularly. It’s definitely a student-orientated place!

The Plough

Situated on St Benedict’s Street, The Plough has an interesting beer garden layout that will make you feel like you’re on your holidays. Their beautiful garden is the perfect place to enjoy one of their on-tap local beers – especially when the pub’s BBQ is stoked up. What more do you need to convince you?

The Eagle

The Eagle has a large beer garden and is one of the more attractive and well established pubs in the Golden Triangle. With a terrace and a BBQ, The Eagle is definitely the place to go with friends as the weather slowly starts to improve. Not one to miss!

BAM BAM

Hidden in the heart of Tombland, this cute little bar and oasis-style garden is awesome no matter what time of year. The garden is like a sun trap, which makes it the perfect place to grab a wine or a beer in the summer!

The Rushcutter Arms

Situated in Thorpe St Andrew, The Rushcutter Arms is slightly further out than some other pubs. But don’t let that put you off – it’s still easy to get to and worth the trip! The pub’s beer garden is right next to the beautiful Norfolk Broads. When the sun’s out there is simply no better beer garden by the river! More than a gastro-pub, with Sunday roasts, this pub is the perfect place to eat, drink and soak up some rays by the river.

If you’re still stuck why not try The Red Lion, Rumsey Wells, Fat Cat Canary, The Lamb, Ketts Tavern, Revolucion De Cuba, The Adam and Eve Pub, The Wig and Pen or The Compleat Angler? Once the sun’s out there’s a beer garden for everyone in Norwich!
