UEA Students Featured on Creepy Site

The Tab has spoken to several Students featured on Ratemash.com, here is what they had to say about it.

| UPDATED

The now infamous site, first exposed last week by The Tab, features at least 100 Students from UEA.

The supposed purpose of the site is to bring university students together and help create cheap, ‘seamless’ nights out.

Well, that seems nice enough…

Perfectly innocent intentions eh? Maybe not…

The Norwich Tab contact UEA students who were featured on the list and despite reacting differently to the site itself, none of them knew they were on their or had consented.

Because meeting people on the internet has always gone so well…

Josh Louis Yarham had this to say “I had no idea that I was on the site – didn’t even know there was such a thing. I think the list needs a little re-visit to find another 50 students at UEA if I’m on there at 16”

When asked if he minded being on the list he added: “No, I find it funny”

James Craven also featured on the site said “I don’t use it nor have I heard of it before which makes me a bit suspicious”.

Co-Chief Editor of The Norwich Tab Victoria Finan, also featured on the sites has stated ‘I was put on Ratemash without my permission. I’m disgusted with their use of my photo. It’s an incredibly dangerous site, given the high level of students, particularly women, who suffer from low self-esteem.’

Reactions to the site are observably mixed, however it is the case that students facebook profiles are being linked to the site and viewed without the knowledge or consent of the students themselves.

What are your opinions on Ratemash? Is it creepy and harmful or a harmless site with ultimately good intentions? Let us know in the comments below.
