The savvy fresher’s guide to Norwich Nightlife: Part One

Part One of the ultimate guide to Norwich nightlife.

| UPDATED

After just a few days at UEA, you will have already have been bombarded with more Facebook invites from Norwich clubs than your liver can take. We’ve spent years doggedly sampling Norwich’s various establishments sacrificing grades, financial stability and, of course, dignity, all in order to bring you the best nightlife guide we can.

Lola Lo

One of Norwich’s smaller, more pleasant clubs – expensive cocktails, fancy loos, one bar, one dancefloor. The best of a standard week’s events look like this:

Monday – ‘Trashed’. Free entry until 1am and £3 after.

Drinks: £1.50 VS, Carlsberg, Sambuca shots & Jagerbombs, £2.95 cocktails, £3 double vodka mixer.

Music: Indie remixes, house, party and bass.

Thursday – ‘Let’s Kill Disco’. Free entry before 11pm with guestlist, £3 for students without. £4 after.

Drinks: £2 VS & Carlsberg, £1.50 Jagerbombs, £2.95 cocktails, £3 double vodka mixer.

Music: ‘The best alternative night in Norwich’, whatever that means.

Wonderland

Wonderland calls itself a ‘superclub’.  It’s huge (for Norwich), with three rooms – main, live, and karaoke. Sometimes the best music is in the latter.

Friday – ‘Propaganda’. £4 NUS. Guestlist advised.

Drinks: £1.60 vodka mixer, £1.80 becks, £2 jagerbomb, £2 JD and mixer.

Music: Rock/Indie night. Friday 27th has a Bloc Party DJ set.

Monday –  ‘Revival’.  Student night. Launched 23rd September with a night hosted by Lethal Bizzle with ‘dancers, inflatables and more.’ The Tab is most curious what the ‘more’ referred to. Find out for us next Monday, tickets are a fiver.

Drinks: £1.80 whiskey/vodka mixers, Carlsberg. 3 Jagerbombs or shots for a fiver.

Music: Hosted by MistaJam and P Money next Monday 30th September.

The LCR

The LCR is home, and you must go no matter how badly you embarrassed yourself there last weekend. Freshers week is a different bag, but after that it’s just Tuesdays, Saturdays and gigs.

Drinks: Carlsberg, Jagerbombs, spirit and mixer, VK £1.50. Cocktails £1.50-£3. Double vodka and Relentless £3.

Tuesday – ‘#Tuesdays’. Fancy dress. £3.50 advance ticket.

Music: Follows the theme. More fun than Saturdays.

Saturday – ‘A List’. £4.50 advance ticket.

Music: Chart, remix, pop. The later, the cheesier.

Mantra (‘Tau’ for confused returners)

Mantra has two dance floors and lots of confusingly shaped seating. They call their lavish smoking area ‘The Secret Garden.’

Monday – ‘Clique’. Launches 23rd September with Made in Chelsea guests. Sells advance tickets for £4 or requires an invite + payment on the door.

Music: RnB and Hip Hop upstairs, Mashed up Party Anthems downstairs.

Drinks: ‘Best deals in the city’ but no listed specifics.

Thursday – ‘After Dark Student Party’. Mantra has a wristband system. They’re sold at the bar and give cheaper entry plus 50% off drinks.

Music: Hip hop, ‘credible urban’, RnB.

Bedfords Bar and Restaurant

‘The Crypt’ has live music and drinks in the evening.

A lower profile night with DJ/live music, cocktails, nice wines. Great place for dancing if your bedroom feels too spacious.
