Is York the New Big Apple?

York … New York … not really so different. Just ask Concrete.

It was supposed to be an article about her favourite bar in a sleepy North Yorkshire city.

So imagine the horror for writer Jessica Crisp when student newspaper Concrete confused the bar’s home city of York with the sprawling American metropolis of New York City.

The article describes ‘a popular bohemian bar in the centre of New York’. But while the Evil Eye Lounge is undoubtedly popular and bohemian, it is not in the centre of New York. It is not even on the same continent as the Big Apple but on the other side of the pond in the City of York, fondly known as the Capital of the North.

The offending article

The entertaining error was the result of an edit made after the piece had been submitted to the newspaper.

If you’ve read the article and hope one day to go to the Evil Eye Lounge, rest assured you do not have to go to New York to do so.
