Not only is he Doctor Who, but now he gets to work with the Gosling!

UEA alumnus Matt Smith has landed the lead role in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut.

Smith, renowned on campus as UEA’s finest Drama export, will star alongside Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes in ‘How To Catch A Monster’.

What a shame to have him behind the camera…

The film will be the first time Gosling has worked behind the camera. He is well known for starring in The Notebook and Drive- but it sounds as if ‘How To Catch A Monster’ will be somewhat different. The film is described as a a ‘dark and macabre fantasy’ centred on the ‘surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city’.

Smith, who graduated in 2005, will be taking his TARDIS across the pond to film later this spring.

Let’s hope he pops back to UEA on his promotional tour- and perhaps even bring his new friend Ryan Gosling with him!
