Snow footprints lead to student’s mugger

Police find hapless mugger after he failed to cover his tracks.

A mugger who attacked a student has been jailed for 32 months after he was traced from footprints left in the snow.

Margiris Jogela attacked a UEA student after a night out in Norwich.

Lithuanian Margiris Jogela, 22, and an accomplice robbed a drunk student as he tried to unlock his bike at 4am.

Jogela and his accomplice hit the student in the back of the head and made off with his wallet, UEA student card and phone. The whole scene was caught on CCTV.

Police managed to find Jogela by following fresh footprints across Pottergate, in the city, that had been left in the snow. The footprints matched the shoes that Jogela was wearing.

Jogela had only been in the country for 48 hours. He admitted robbery before Norwich Crown Court and has been sentenced to 32 months in jail. Unfortunately his accomplice has not yet been found.
