UEA Football Bounce Back

UEA 5-2 Freethorpe: UEA got the heart-breaking cup exit out of their system with a comfortable win over mid-table Freethorpe.

UEA returned to winning ways this week with an impressive win over mid-table Freethorpe.

The team was changed to bring in players who might have counted themselves unfortunate not to play last week, with Calvo and Pachnis in on either wing and Skidmore into central midfield. Blackwell and Harle were unavailable, Beeson injured and Richards on the bench.

The players indulge in a little spot the ball competition

Despite preparations going well, the team struggled to get going on a slow and heavy pitch and were punished from a deep cross and good free header to go one down.

At this point things looked worrying but shortly after Dingli turned and slipped the ball through the inside channel for Pachnis to show great desire and finish. His initial shot was saved by the keeper but the rebound hit Pachnis finding its way into the net to get UEA back on level terms.

The goal seemed to galvanise UEA and they began to stroke the ball around with complete control of possession.
UEA took the lead with Dingli the provider once again, the forward beat the full-back crossing low for Calvo to scramble the ball home.

UEA were in the ascendancy and made it three from a corner, several efforts were blocked until the ball dropped to centre back Bacon for an accomplished half volley through the bodies and into the net.

The second half started in similar fashion, with UEA having all of the ball and they soon made their possession count with man of the match Gwion curling a fine effort past the keeper from the edge of the area.

Freethorpe pulled one back through a dubious penalty awarded for an apparent handball by goal scorer Bacon.

The goal looked to vitalize Freethorpe momentarily but UEA killed the game off soon after, centre back Altay found himself well forward rifling home from outside the box for his first UEA goal.

A decent response from the Yellows after the disappointment of cup defeat the week before.
