Car crash causes chaos on Unthank

Students were left stranded after a car accident meant that the 25 bus service was unable to run yesterday morning

A car crash on Unthank Road this morning left the road closed to traffic for around two hours.

Emergency service teams from Carrow and Earlham were called to assist two casualties, and one was extricated using hydraulic equipment.

A Norfolk police spokesman said minor injuries were treated by ambulance crews at the scene, and that the road was re-opened to traffic at 9.53am.

The crash caused serious disruption to the 25 bus service, with First tweeting: “UPDATE: Unthank Road major accident will cause road to be shut for considerable amount of time. Will update when we can.”

The 25 bus service subsequently went via Newmarket Road for the duration of the road closure.

However, the service continued to run late throughout the day, causing a number of students to once again bemoan the volatility of the bus service.

The accident caused disruption to a number of students’ timetables, with second year Business Management student Josh O’Brien relating how he was forced to walk to university, and resultantly  missing the first half of a lecture.

Credit must be given to the emergency service teams who acted quickly and efficiently, ensuring no one was seriously injured and that disruption was kept to a minimum.
