Battle of the Bars Day 3: Lola Lo

It’s day three of Battle of the Bars, and it’s Lola Lo!

Wednesday night is traditionally the night UEA sports teams ditch the field and the hit the dance floor. Lola Lo prides itself on being ‘home of UEA Sports in the city’ with its midweek club night, Kitsch Wednesday.

Special offers are available to sports teams and big groups but Lola’s still welcome those of a non-sporty nature.

With its quirky tiki bar theme, Lola Lo is one of the more attractive clubs in Norwich. It offers varying genres of music on different nights from Indi to House, giving it a greater variety than many of Norwich’s clubs that tend to stick to predictable chart favourites.

That said, I have mixed feelings about their music. Yes they often play what I listen to when I’m at home, but can you dance to it? Not really, and I am partial to the odd boogie.

Lola’s dance floor is, in my experience, often uncomfortably cramped with people awkwardly shuffling to rather mellow music. On busy nights it can be unbearably hot and the tiny smoking area doesn’t accommodate for those who just want to get some air.

For cheap drinks I’d recommend giving Lola’s a go on a Wednesday when Jagerbombs and selected bottles are £1.50. Drinks can get a little pricey the rest of the week.

You may well disagree, but it’s been a long time since I had a good night at Lola Lo. The long wait outside always makes me a moody lady, I’ve usually sobered up from pre-drinks and am freezing before I get anywhere near the door.

Lola’s is a great place for a social if there’s a big group of you and you are the ones dominating the small space. For everyone else, it can get a bit LAD LAD LAD on a Wednesday.

Still I aim to persevere with Lola Lo as the yummy Mario Falcone from TOWIE will be there on the 17th October. Mmmmm.
