Police crackdown on road rage cyclists following a series of hit and runs

Police have vowed to crack down on inconsiderate cyclists after a series of bike hit and runs and many near-miss complaints.

Officers from the Norwich North Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) warn that there will be increased Police Patrols and penalties in future for dangerous cyclists to ensure not only their own safety but that of other road users.

Cyclists found persistently breaking the law will be given a £30 fixed penalty notice.

Police have warned: “We will carry out high-visibility patrols in order to educate and increase awareness among cyclists about the dangers of riding on pavements.”

This education consists of the following safety advice:

  • Use the designated cycle paths
  • Do not cycle on pedestrian footpaths
  • Use your bike lights in conditions of low visibility
  • Ensure your bicycle is safe for road use before your journey
