Freshers Is Over, The Year Has Just Begun!

The end of Freshers’ Week doesn’t mean an end to having a laugh

And so Freshers’ Week ends for another year. Hopefully you will have made some great memories and lost more than a few in the process. But not all of you will have had the crazy week many anticipate ‘Welcome Week’ to be, and some will possibly have loathed every second of the beer-stained, noisy, awkward proceedings.

Some of you may not naturally enjoy the clubbing lifestyle that permeated the majority of UEA’s Freshers’ events and may instead have preferred the magic and comedy nights to the flashing lights and ten song playlist of the LCR. Maybe you and your flatmates didn’t exactly hit it off and you found yourself more comfortable in your room on Skype than in the kitchen. Or perhaps you missed out on getting tickets to any Freshers’ events and feel as if you missed out on your chief opportunity to meet new people.

If any of the above apply to you, then don’t worry! Remember, as much as Freshers’ is hyped, it is just one week of many that you will spend at UEA.

If you aren’t into clubbing and would prefer a gig, comedy night or just something that doesn’t involve copious amounts of VK then you can check out UEA’s official ticket website. There are plenty of other events on at the LCR or the University’s Norwich venue ‘The Waterfront’ throughout the year that offer opportunities for entertainment that don’t require you to play Ring of Fire before they can become remotely entertaining.

Don’t despair if you didn’t meet the kind of friends you were hoping for in Fresher’s week, you still have the rest of the year to meet people either on your course or in societies, which present great opportunities to meet those who have similar interests to you.

If you didn’t get any Freshers’ tickets then I refer you back to my first point, it was only week one! It isn’t the case that after Welcome Week everything just stops. With club nights, other forms of entertainment and socials on almost every night of the week you will have plenty of time to meet people and have an awesome student experience – even if you loath VK and the LCR with an intense passion.
