A FAIRWAY TO START THE YEAR

If watching the Ryder Cup has got you dusting off your set of irons, then why not sign up to UEA’s golf society?

The golfing world’s spotlight has been on Illinois this weekend as Europe and the USA rekindled their rivalry in The Ryder Cup. If watching the pros has got you dusting off your set of irons, then why not sign up to UEA’s golf society?

Barnham Broom – a beautiful club just outside Norwich

According to the pundits, ‘tough’ and ‘hostile’ crowds met the European team in America, (let’s face it the crowds are mainly silent but for one man that shouts “In the hole!” after every drive). Fear not, however – you will be met with no such reception here at UEA, the golf society welcomes varied abilities to the club.

At £60, a year’s membership offers great value entitling full benefits at the picturesque Barnham Broom Golf Club which boasts two 18 hole Championship golf courses.

The club came second last year in their respective BUCS division and are aiming to go one better, with president of the golf committee Josh Yarham telling The Tab, “we hope to win this year.” Yarham is clearly confident in the club’s abilities saying, “we have a lot of single-figured handicap players showing a lot of potential.”

If you think you have what it takes to make the team or have simply been inspired by the weekend’s incredible climax in the US, then head down to the trials taking place on 3 October. For more information check out the UEA Golf Society 2012/13 group on Facebook or contact Josh directly via: [email protected].

Keep an eye out for the socials throughout the year. Pub golf anyone?
