UEA Awarded for being so Wonderful and full of Eye Candy!

To all those who have ever looked down on the UEA we have official proof of just how wonderful we are.

When the recent UEA Rugby Club ban hit the national press it was expected that comments on such articles would focus on the readers’ agreement or disagreement with the decision. However, in the snobby world of higher education, commenters were more concerned with voicing their astonishment that UEA had been called a ‘top’ university in headlines.

One such example of inter-uni discrimination from the Daily Mail website was ‘Top university? Since when? Don't be so ridiculous’. Well hate to break it to you, you elitist son of a bitch, but UEA is consistently in the top 30 in the league tables, is now in the top 150 world universities, and to cap it all was in the top ten of every one of the nine WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2011. So suck on that haters.

I’ve grown accustomed to receiving blank looks when I tell people I go to UEA. Only the select few in the know give the fact of an English Literature degree from the University of East Anglia the respect it deserves. With Oxford University stating that the majority of students on their newly coined Creative Writing MA course are UEA graduates you’d think people might start to get the message.

But referring back to WhatUni, not only did we win overall best uni but we came in the top eight in every one of the nine categories. We would have been in the top five if it wasn’t for city life and let’s face it, there’s not much any uni can really do about that!

Ours is now officially the best student union in the land, with us taking a brilliant second for our wide variety of clubs and societies. If you can’t do it and UEA then it can only be done … well at Durham uni apparently.

All due respect to campus itself, with first place in accommodation (as we have been for the last three years) not looking too shabby. From now on I will hold my peace if I get an email about water works! I certainly have appreciated just how good first year living was now I have to walk through my galley kitchen to get to the bathroom and have emptied my own bins for a year. With this view cemented by third place in uni facilities it seems we’ve never looked at our concrete jungle so fondly.

Finally, as well as our 5 star courses and lecturers (2nd place) and our glowing job prospects (5th place – a welcome sign in today’s employment market), we gained second place in the crème de la crème of uni awards – Eye Candy. We may not have chosen UEA for its attractive alumni but it’s always good to know that you number among one of the fittest student bodies out there.

So give it up for UEA. A truly terrific TOP university.
