With over one hundred in attendance, a grand total of £320 raised for charity, and a set of great acts, the Live Music Night at The Hive was a grand success. James Maas reports.

Live Music Night The Hive The UEA Drop uea

Comprising of six acts, The Hive's Live Music Night featured a mixed line up of UEA based talent and acts from the vibrant Norwich music scene, in aid of Childreach International.

Opening the night was the fantastic Harriet Langley, a UEA Music student. Her style combines a variety of influences from Rock, Pop, Musical Theatre, Blues and Jazz, to create a melodic and catchy sound. Her emotive and powerful vocals express the lyrics and enjoyable melodies that started the night off with a bang, setting the scene for the five other fantastic acts to follow.

Next to the stage was The Actor & The Peach, a bluesy Soul Acoustic Duo who have performed throughout East Anglia. Comprised of James 'The Peach' Maas on acoustic guitar and Christian Lovick aka 'The Actor' delivering the vocal talent, their set offered a decent mix of blues/souls inspired originals, as well as a couple of covers. Having played throughout Norfolk/Suffolk, they are making their mark on the East Anglian scene.

From here, the audience was treated to very exclusive performance by Little Wicked Games. Charlotte Cachia, UEA Psychology student, & Trish Plant, UEA Environmental Sciences student, played their first ever live gig together. Their performance was extraordinary for a first gig, complimented by their interesting guitar techniques and fabulous vocal harmonies. Definitely an act to look out for in the future.

Toning things down, next up was Addison's Uncle a.k.a. Philip Pearson, a talented acoustic folk singer songwriter from Norwich telling tales and honest stories delivered with lyrical lines and folk guitar. He took the crowd on a journey with his original folk inspired tracks and a few covers from Mumford & Sons.

Kolin Durier, who is relatively new to the Norwich music scene, has taken off like a storm over the last few months. He just took the step from 'bedroom' musician to a 'performing' musician and it definitely paid off. His original tracks were brilliant, and we look forward to hearing more from him in the future.

Finally, Electric Youth Revolt, who has just come back from their 2nd UK tour, finished the night off. Playing a set of original tracks from their debut EP, Common Trends of the Bedsit Jet Set, Neil Dennis & Steven Bailey performed a stripped back set for this acoustic gig. If you ever get a chance to see them in full line up with Rob Goodwin on drums, be sure to check them out, as they deliver an energetic show and are sure to build upon their success.

Overall, the audience was treated to a fantastic night of music, whilst contributing to fundraising success for Childreach International. A big thank you goes to James Maas and Gary Ditcher from RAG society, who ultimately contributed to the success of this event.
