Team Northumbria suffers close defeat to Newcastle

There’s a first time for everything

Masses of Northumbrians descended upon Kingston Park last night to cheer on their team at the annual Clash of the Titans Rugby match, only to accept defeat to Newcastle.

After a slow start, Team Northumbria, who have been victorious for the past two years, raced ahead with a penalty to secure a 3-0 lead. Newcastle followed suit, bringing the score to 3-3, which remained until half time.

A rather low score indeed, compared with the 14-3 half time score of last year. (To us of course).

Ten minutes into the second half and thanks to a try and successful conversion, Team Northumbria secured a 10-3 lead. But those pesky poshos were hot on our toes, responding with a try. A failed conversion brought the score to 10-8 and Northumbria looked set for victory.

But all that was taken away from us when Newcastle scored another try to bring the full time score to 13-10. Our fate was settled. Newcastle had narrowly beaten us.

Still can’t hit those kicks though, can they?

But fellow Northumbrians, don’t be down. Thank your lucky stars that we understand that this is not an intimidating chant: ‘Poly is a girls name, Poly is a girls name, nah, nah, nah, oi.’

How very N-Dubz.

Newcastle, you may have won the battle, but you shall not win the war.
