Surprise, surprise: Newcastle finalists are voting Tory

More than a third of Newcastle final years will be voting conservative in the upcoming election.

The Student Politics Poll found that at Newcastle 35% will vote Tory, 27% will choose Labour and a measly 3% plan to back the Lib Dems.

As you’ve probably heard, the constituency of Newcastle upon Tyne has been a Labour stronghold since 1983.

The results of the Student Politics Poll are in and final year students at Newcastle Uni are more likely to vote for the Conservatives in the upcoming General Election.

Finalists at Newcastle are also more likely to vote for the Green Party than Labour, with 29% opting to vote Green. Only 1% of interviewees were intending to vote UKIP.

At Durham 45% were voting Conservative versus the 27% voting Labour.

13,039 final year students were interviewed face-to-face across the country before the start of the Easter holidays.

31% of finalists were planning to vote Labour on May 7th, with the Conservatives narrowly behind.

Northumbria University was not one of the 30 uni’s to be included in the survey.
