Newcastle ranks in 50 best places to live in the UK

They’ve clearly never seen the delights of Jesmond and Heaton

The Sunday Times has complied a list of top places to live in the country and Newcastle has featured twice on the list.

The gems the Toon has to offer are Gosforth, ranked at 40th, and the Quayside, which came 41st.

Surprisingly, Birmingham synched 5th, 6th and 7th place, which has put us to shame – Geordies have a much more attractive accent and we’re properly in the North.

Interestingly enough the two places chosen aren’t particularly lived in or frequented by students. But surely the sick we leave on the street and the signs that we steal are part of the charm of living in a student city?

Gosforth, though not a hot spot for student activity, has it’s charms, but you’re more likely to see a yummy mummy there than on Chillingham Road.

Again the Quayside isn’t somewhere you associate with student living. Unless you’ve got a killer bursary or mumsie and papa are very rich, you ain’t gonna be living by the Millennium Bridge.

Nice to know though that should Northumbria (or even Newcastle) graduates stay true and live in the Toon, they’ve got two of the best places in Britain to choose from. Either that or you can “slum” it.

We lost out to neighbouring Durham who came 17th. We’ll allow them the fact that they have a stunning cathedral and castle. But let’s face it, is it really worth living in a town full of Oxbridge rejects?

Everybody knows that Newcastle is the true jewel in the crown of the North East, so we can’t be too bitter about it.
