Two students raped in two weeks in Newcastle City Centre

Another rape incident outside popular Newcastle nightclub

Two weeks after a student was raped inside a busy nightclub, Ohso, the popular night life street in Newcastle City Centre is again under investigation, after police received a report that a ‘woman in her 20’s’ had been raped.

First reported at 4.51 am on Wednesday, October 1st, the incident occurred in the smoking area between the bars Perdu and Blackie Boy, which are popular haunts for students.

Temporary Superintendent Bruce Storey, Newcastle Area Command, commented: “We know that these incidents can be concerning to the local community and there are extra patrols are taking place in the area.”

The investigation is in its early stages, with the police checking local CCTV from the time of the attack. No information has been released giving the description of the attacker. The police are urging anybody who was in the area that night to come forward if they have any information.

“Anyone who was in this area on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning who saw anything suspicious or has information about what happened is asked to get in touch with police.”
