James, the older brother of musician John Newman, got his breakthrough when his friend at university got him in touch with the band Rudimental. James wrote and sold them their number one hit “Waiting All Night”, and also earned himself a Brit Award in 2014 for British Single of the Year.

From that point, he became a full time songwriter and has written for artists such as Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Little Mix.

James will be performing a song he co-wrote called ‘My Last Breath’ .

Our fingers are crossed that James will do Newcastle proud, and we hope he does better than last year (which isn’t that hard as we came last place…).
