We messaged guys on Bumble using only ABBA quotes and it was chaos
Gimme gimme gimme
The premise
Like everyone else on God's green earth, we love ABBA. Having pres? Put on ABBA. Having a wine night with your friends? Put on ABBA. Going through an existential crisis? Put on ABBA, baby. It's a classic, a staple, a masterpiece. There's two types of people in the world; people who enjoy ABBA and liars.
So, using this key cornerstone of British, nay world, culture, we decided to see what using ABBA to get guys would have in store for us. Who would take a chance on me? Does the winner really take it all?
Let the games begin
1. Lay All Your Love On Me
We thought we'd start of pretty basic with a song title. We knew we'd get one X-rated reply but David here really pulled out all the stops. Points for ballsy-ness (excuse the pun).

Predictability: 5/5
2. Take A Chance On Me
James GOT IT. Immediately picked up what we were putting down and ran with it.
Understanding: 10000/5
Creativity: 3/5
Predictability: 2/5 (carried on the song, no questions asked)
3. Dancing Queen
Granted, this one was pretty obvious, but Sean got it and finished the quote of for us. Bonus points for the little "Ooooooh", staying accurate to the vocals of the song.

Creativity: 2/5
Predictability: 3/5
4. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme
AMAZING. Got the reference and made a joke about it. Absolutely class, Matty. You're an angel.
Understanding: 5/5
Creativity: 100000/5 (still laughing)
Predictability: 0/5
5. Voulez-Vous
Maybe he didn't quite get the reference, but the acceptance and give-it-a-go attitude won us over. Go on, Aidan.
Understanding: 0/5
Creativity: 3/5 (never been called poetic before)
Predictability: 2/5
6. Waterloo
Clearly following scientific method, he had a hypothesis, did some research and confirmed it. We like a thorough man, even if he caught onto it immediately.
Understanding: 5/5
Creativity: 1/5
Predictability: 4/5 (someone was bound to suss us out)
7. Does Your Mother Know?
I'm blushing, you're killing me with kindness.
Understanding: 1/5 (the quote wasn't too obvious so we forgive him)
Creativity: 2/5
Predictability: 4/5
8. Thank You For The Music
Jamie is here to pick up my spirits, lift me up when I'm down and encourage me to be the best person I can be. Sure, this went over his head, but he means so well.
Understanding: 0/5
Creativity: 4/5
Predictability: 0/5 ("fascination")
9. Money, Money, Money
Charlie PERFECTLY set us up for the next line, which we assume he was completely unassuming to. Points for relatability. Go find your wealthy man, Charlie.
Understanding: 0/5
Creativity: 2/5
Predictability: 3/5
We just had to try this one out twice (looking for those wealthy men). Loving the honesty we got from Harman, both relatable and funny.

Predictability: 2/5
What we've learnt…
We had a few wins, a few loses, one wildly inappropriate response and a whole lot of confusion. Maybe ABBA isn't the safest way to go when you're trying to bag a date, but we must say we got a ton of replies, so it works as a conversation opener. Have we learnt anything about the cultural penetration of ABBA? Not really, no. Maybe most guys recognise big ABBA songs from nights in Flares and Tiger Tiger, but struggle with the nuanced quotes. Take from that what you will, but for now we say, Thank You For The Music.
