A woman was hit by a bus and trapped under it last night outside St. James' Park.

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old woman was hit by a but last night outside St. James' Park. According to a statement released this morning by Northumbria Police, the incident occured at about 10.23pm last night. The emergency services who arrived at the scene released the woman, who was trapped under the bus.

The statement said: "At around 10.23pm yesterday (Tuesday), police recieved a report that a double decker bus had been in collision with a female pedestrain on Barrack Road, Newcastle.

"Emergency services attended and found the woman, 18, trapped underneath the vehicle. She was concious but had suffered injuries to her ribs and spine. The woman was subsequently taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

"A number of people are thought to have been in the area at the time of the incident, and police are especially keen for anybody who has dashcam footage of the collision to come forward."

A police investigation has begun to establish what happened.
